Needing a little pamper time during lock down? We’ve asked the experts at Azure Spa to put together an easy at-home facial to keep your skin glowing.

Constant video meetings got you worried about the condition of your skin? There’s no need to let your skincare regime slip while in self-isolation, Lauren Boyd from Azure Spa and Fitness has put together her tips for a spa worthy facial – with some bonus skin advice thrown in.

Create a relaxing environment

“The first thing you recognise when you walk into Azure Spa is the instantly relaxing scent,” Lauren says. “To create your own spa experience at home, begin by diffusing a combination of essential oils”. Scents such as lavender or bergamot help to balance emotions and relieve stress.

“Dim the lights, pour yourself a herbal tea, light some candles and run a hot bath – instant bliss,” Lauren says.

Easy at-home facial

Lauren suggests keeping your at-home facial fairly simple by reducing it to a three-step process: cleanse, exfoliate and apply a day or night moisturiser prescribed to your skin type.

“We often forget the eyes, so an easy add-on is hydrating gel eye pads – leave on for 15 minutes, lay back and relax, then throw away.” Suffering from stress-breakouts? Try this simple spot-treatment:

Ingredients

1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel

2 drops tea tree oil

Method

Mix the two ingredients together. The aloe vera is a cooling skin soother and tea tree has been used for centuries for its antibacterial properties. Cleanse and dry your skin, apply your spot-treatment to affected areas only, wait 10 minutes. Rinse off, apply your moisturiser.

Take your at-home skincare routine up a notch

Regardless of the lock-down there’s lots of things you could be doing in your at-home skincare routine. “80% of what is done at home in our skincare routine contributes to the health, maintenance and results we hope to achieve for our skin,” explains Lauren. “Essential items at a minimum should include a cleanser, exfoliator, daily moisturiser and SPF.”

An often-overlooked product in skincare routines are masks, but the team at Azure Spa and Fitness swear by them. “At the end of the day after cleansing and removing your make up, pop on an overnight regenerating sleep mask. Wake up beautiful!”

For naturally oily skin types, Lauren suggests treatments designed to balance and restore sebum, refine pores and mattify. When possible, a facial will allow a skincare professional to check the condition and concerns of your skin and prescribe a treatment.

If all this time indoors, exposed to air conditioners or heaters, is drying out your skin, Lauren suggests a facial aimed at detoxifying. “We simply love our BABOR Pollution Protect Ampoules – acts like a protective shield against everyday negative environmental influences.”

Future plan your facial

Stay positive through all of this and, if it helps, start planning the lovely things you’ll do once you’re no longer under house-arrest. Lauren suggests booking in a 90-minute BABOR Grand Cru Facial at Azure Spa and Fitness at The Star Gold Coast to spoil yourself. It’s the ultimate luxury treatment for both the skin and the mind.
